Two Championship Records were broken at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 on Thursday (31 July) as Australia secured their fifth swimming gold medal of the event.

Summer McINTOSH (CAN) came close to setting a new world record in the women’s 200m butterfly, missing it by a mere 0.18 seconds. She finished with a time of 2 minutes 1.99 seconds, establishing a new Championship Record and earning her third gold medal in Singapore. Regan SMITH (USA) followed closely behind, finishing exactly three seconds later, with Elizabeth DEKKERS (AUS) in third place.

David POPOVICI (ROU) achieved a double victory for the second time, winning the men’s 100m freestyle in a Championship Record time. His late surge allowed him to come from behind and secure gold with a time of 46.51 seconds, breaking PAN Zhanle (CHN)’s previous record of 46.80 seconds. Jack ALEXY (USA) and Kyle CHALMERS (AUS) finished in second and third place, respectively.
