Singapore 2025: China’s Xu Huiyan Tops Technical Solo Prelim; Austria Duet Takes Commanding Lead on Day One

The artistic swimming competition at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 commenced at the World Aquatics Championships Arena, with the women’s solo and duet technical events starting off.

In the women’s solo technical event, the pre-event favorites secured their places in the final effortlessly, with China’s XU Huiyan standing out in the preliminary round, achieving a score of 265.8984.

The 19-year-old, who recently clinched five gold medals at the World Cup Super Final last month, is now pursuing her first world title.

Vasilina KHANDOSHKA (NAA) recorded the second-best score of the day at 254.8200, followed closely by Spain’s Iris TIO CASAS with a score of 253.7691.

Other competitors who made it into the top 12 include Vasiliki ALEXANDRI (AUT) and Klara BLEYER (GER).

These athletes will compete in the final scheduled for 19 July.

In the women’s duet technical event, Austria’s Anna-Marie ALEXANDRI and Eirini-Marina ALEXANDRI executed the most challenging routine in the preliminary round, qualifying for the final with the highest score of the day at 305.1684 points.

Twin sisters LIN Yanhan (CHN) and LIN Yanjun (CHN) overcame their nerves to make a strong debut at the world championships, scoring 301.0933 to qualify in second place.

Duets from countries such as Japan, Spain, and the United States rounded out the top 12 pairs. The final for the women’s duet technical event is set for 21 July.

The artistic swimming events will continue tomorrow at the World Aquatics Championships Arena, starting with the team free preliminary round at 10am local time.
