Sharath Kamal successfully navigates a formidable challenge posed by Anirban Ghosh to progress in the WTT Star Contender Chennai 2025

Achanta Sharath Kamal commenced the final chapter of his professional table tennis journey without any difficulties, securing victories in both the men’s singles and doubles events at the WTT Star Contender tournament in Chennai on Thursday.

Sharath, a five-time Olympian and ten-time national champion, partnered with Snehit Suravajjula, who is 18 years his junior, to triumph over the Australian duo of Nicolas Lum and Finn Luu in a nail-biting round-of-16 doubles match, winning 3-2 (11-6, 7-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9).

In his singles match, where he had the opportunity to showcase his classic style, Sharath faced qualifier Anirban Ghosh in the final match on the main court at the Nehru Indoor Stadium. The 42-year-old displayed a composed demeanor throughout the match.

Sporting a blue hairband and the Indian jersey, Sharath defeated the 26-year-old Ghosh with a score of 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 12-10) in just 22 minutes.

Ranked World No. 92, Sharath is set to compete against the 10th-seeded Australian Lum in the round of 32.
