Unseeded Indian duo Banthia and Somani advance to the semifinals of the 2025 Bengaluru Open in the doubles

Bengaluru, February 27, 2025: The unseeded Indian duo of Siddhant Banthia and Parikshit Somani triumphed over Nicolas Mejia and Bernard Tomic with a score of 7-5, 6-0, advancing to the semifinals of the Bengaluru Open doubles competition on Thursday. The Indian pair is set to compete against Australia’s Blake Bayldon and Mattew Christopher Romios for a chance to reach the final.

The first set on Court 1 of the KSLTA Tennis Stadium was closely contested, with both Banthia/Somani and Mejia/Tomic exchanging points in a bid for dominance. The latter nearly took control in the seventh game, but after successfully defending a critical break point, the Indian team surged ahead, winning games nine and eleven on their serve. They ultimately broke their opponents in the twelfth game to secure the first set. Carrying this momentum into the second set, Banthia and Somani delivered a decisive performance, winning the set without dropping a game in just 20 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni moved closer to defending their title with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hynek Barton and Eric Vanshelboim. The reigning champions established an early break in the first set and maintained their lead with additional crucial breaks in the fifth and ninth games of the second set.

As the most successful doubles team in the tournament, Ramkumar and Myneni will face the pair Anirudh Chandrasekar/Ray Ho for a place in the final. who had a great win against the pair Prajwal Dev / Aryan Shah.

Also advancing to the semifinals were the second-seeded pair of Bayldon and Romios. Concurrently, third seed Brandon Holt rallied from a set down to defeat former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic in a closely contested match, finishing with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, and advancing to the last eight.

The day’s third singles match featured seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki, who emerged victorious against Jay Clarke with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
